WISCK Update: Emergencies, Adoptions & Ways You Can Help 🐾

It’s been an incredibly busy time for our rescue team, with several emergency cases needing urgent care. One poor soul was found tangled tightly in a length of rope that had wrapped around his body and leg, leaving him unable to put weight on it. The rope had started to cut into his skin, causing what must have been unimaginable pain. Thankfully, kind homeowners managed to contain him, and he was swiftly taken to the vet to be sedated and have the rope carefully removed. He’s now safe in our care, receiving pain relief, long-lasting antibiotics, and plenty of good meals while we monitor his recovery.

Earlier in the month, a handsome tabby boy was hit by a car in Barvas and fled the scene. A quick-thinking supporter found him the following day, and our team rushed to bring him to safety. After an overnight stay at the vet and x-rays confirmed no broken bones, he was referred to Scottish Vet Referrals on the mainland due to a persistent head tilt. Extensive tests and scans have thankfully ruled out anything life threatening, but he has been diagnosed with diabetes and a thyroid issue. This is likely the result of an untreated infection. He will now need lifelong medication, and his veterinary care has already reached £2,400.

Then we had another poor soul reported to us by a caring member of the public. He was a stray with a nasty ear injury and was in need of immediate help. He’s been to the vet, where he was thoroughly checked over and given antibiotics and anti-inflammatories to treat the wound and any underlying infection. He also received cream to help the ear heal and was treated for fleas, ticks and worms. He’s now booked in to be neutered. Once he’s fully recovered, he’ll be a new boy and will be looking for a fabulous home. He’s far too friendly to be living outside alone and begging for food. He is a super cuddly boy, but he is BIG - one volunteer said his head butt nearly broke her nose!Ā

This absolutely gorgeous wee family also arrived at the begninning of October. The kittens are full of energy and mischief, and have already shown us their playful personalities. Poor mummy cat, who is the sweetest girl, is already pregnant again. It’s heartbreaking to see how tired and fed up she is after raising litter after litter. Thankfully, in the pens she now has a safe space on a top shelf with comfy beds where the babies can’t reach her. She can finally take some much needed breaks and get the rest she deserves.

So as you can imagine, we have been and will continue to appeal for donations and for any fundraisers that our amazing supporters would like to host. Every cat is worth every penny, but as we are entirely volunteer led and donation dependent, we truly rely on your kindness to keep going. Anything you can spare, or any fundraising you would like to organise, would be so greatly appreciated. Your support genuinely makes all the difference to the cats in our care.
